What You Will Learn

  • How to begin your figure drawing practice: we will start right from the beginning, covering essential topics such as selecting the right drawing tools and paper

  • Best practices for animation gestures, exploring how to approach poses ranging from 1 to 10 minutes.

  • How to utilize simple shading methods to communicate form effectively

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, starting with a focus on the torso from both front and back perspectives

  • Master the intricacies of animating arms and legs, exploring three different views for each to ensure a well-rounded grasp of their movements and structure

  • Take a closer, in-depth look at animating hands and feet, vital elements for adding realism and expressiveness to your characters and scenes

  • We'll spend one full week dedicated to teaching you the essential skills of blocking in faces. This period will focus on establishing the basic structure and proportions of the face

  • After mastering foundational techniques, we will move on to longer portrait studies. You'll have the freedom to take as much time as necessary to thoroughly analyze and render the nuances of each individual portrait

  • This extended practice will enable you to capture the subject's unique features and expressions in greater depth, refining your artistic abilities to create more lifelike and expressive portraits

  • When you sign up for a Group Course you will participate in a scheduled class where video lectures, assigned homework, and direct feedback from The Animation Tutor are provided.

    Each week, The Animation Tutor will review and provide feedback collectively, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

    Each student will receive a personalized group feedback video with 15 minutes of feedback each (totalling 2 hours of feedback throughout the course), along with corrected artwork files.

    Your work will be evaluated in comparison to the rest of the group. Additionally, there will be designated office hours where you can have discussions with The Animation Tutor at specific milestones throughout the course.

  • All Animation Tutor Courses Require:

    • Zoom account for the online feedback sessions

    • Access to Google Drive to submit homework and to receive feedback files

    • Reliable internet speed, ideally offering at least 30 Mbps for both downloads and upload, ensures a smooth online experience

    • Drawing materials of your choice, life drawing is always best done traditionally

    • Access to a library or bookstore

    • Ability to seek out artists that inspire you
